LSB#: 180416DC32 Make: Made by Winchester for Sears Model: 54, Catalog No. 273.810, like Winchester '94 Serial Number: 17699 Year of Manufacture: 1964-1973 Caliber:.30-30 Action Type: This rifle has a lever action with a full length tubular magazine. Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-SEARS-', 'MOD. Ohps: the reason I found this particular thread, was that I recently acquired an old Sears Roebuck bike in pretty dirty/bad condition, restored it, and sold it for over $250. Sears And Roebuck Model 54 Serial Numbers
How can I find the date of manufacture of a Sears Roebuck Model 54 30 30 rifle? If there is no resource for this information, any idea of the date Winchester started making them for Sears? I found a site that had manufacture dates of Winchesters by serial # and ran the serial number as a Winchester 94, since they are the same gun, and got a manufacture date of 1894. Did Winchester use the same series of serial numbers on the 94 models they made for Sears (as 54 models) or did they start a new series for the 54s? Also, any suggestions on getting the gun appraised?

Hi, and Welcome To The Forum! You might get this information from the Cody Firearms Museum, 720 Sheridan Ave., Cody, WY, 82414. They have most of the original Winchester records, and will charge $45 for the information. You probably won't have any luck at all contacting the present day Winchester, which is actually their successor, U.S. Repeating Arms Corp.; although you might (with a great deal of persitence) get Sears to tell you what year they bought it. In any event, I doubt if it is worth any more than one stamped with the Winchester name made during the same time period, and usually 'house brand' guns are worth a little less. The only real factor you are dealing with here in determining the value (besides condition, which is very important) is whether the rifle was manufactured pre or post 1964, the pre-'64 rifles generally being considered of higher quality. A gunsmith or dealer familiar with the Winchester '94 series could probably make that determination by examining the rifle and give you an approximate value at the same time--probably for less than $45. As for the serial number series, you've answered your own question, since Sears wasn't selling Winchesters in 1894.

Der.. The Cody Firearms Museum does not have 'most' of the original Winchester factory records, and they have no records for retail store models. 'Most' of the records were accidently destroyed in 1932. The records that they do have for the Model 1894/94 stop at serial number 353,999. The cost of having a serial number researched is $55 (for a non member).. please go to this link for the correct information. http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/QandA.cfm
