Being a mage or wizard in the desolate lands of Skyrim could prove to be quite more challenging than expected. So getting your hands on the best pieces of equipment to ease the difficulty of the task might be the first thing you want to do when your adventure starts.

Oblivion-Clothing-Pants lists pants that can be worn (with shirts) in place of robes. Oblivion-Clothing-Shirts lists shirts that can be worn (with pants) in place of robes. Oblivion-Armor-Full Sets Heavy lists full sets of heavy armor. Armor can be worn in place of robes. Oblivion-Armor-Full Sets Light lists full sets of light armor. Evil Caster Robes - posted in Skyrim Mod Requests: I play as a caster and specifically an 'evil-type' at the likes of necromancer/shadow destruction mage and I've looked for hours but can't find any mod that adds a nice looking robe for such types of characters so I hope someone here can help me out.

Hold on to your horses, though. Cause some of these items are not easy to get, and most can’t be obtained as soon as the game starts.

Good news is there’s no need to be in a rush. Most of these items will prove to be useful to the Dragonborn for the better part of the game, so there’s no need to get them as soon as “you’re finally awake”.

Mastering the powers of magicka and keeping yourself safe from harm are going to be your two main tasks as a wizard if you wish to become the most powerful mage in the land. And these items will help you with both!

Oh by the way, some items in this list require the Dawnguad or Dragonborn DLCs. I’ll assume you probably have them already if you’re playing Skyrim in 2020, but keep that in mind just as a head’s up. In any case, if you’re really pushing to get these items then you’re either a patient gamer or you’re not reading this anymore. Let’s get into the list!

13. Taron Dreth’s Robes

Where To Get: Defeat Taron and loot his corpse afterwards

Taron Dreth is actually a sociopath as far as I’m concerned.

He attacks you as soon as you tell him you know about a friend of his, upon which point he thinks you know too much and charges directly at you. Slay the psycho and elegantly loot his clothes from his corpse if you wish to obtain them.

The robes worn by Taron Dreth will grant you a 75% boost to your magicka regeneration, and will also let your destruction spells be cast with 15% less magicka than usual.

It’s a fantastic item to be worn by combat mages in battle, although its defending capabilities are shambolic. Just be sure not to let any baddies get too close to you without more defense or you’re as good as gone!

12. Ahzidal’s Ring of Necromancy

Where To Get: You need to be at the second stage of the Unearthed quest if you’re looking to obtain this item. Visit the Kolbjorn Barrow and look for a room where two dead miners are laying. Once found, look for the secret handle that leads to a hidden room. Are you there yet? That’s where the ring is!

I’ve added this ring to the list because I’m completely in love with its effect.

It’s an amazing ring for those that are looking to become powerful conjurers, and not only for necromancers as Ahzidal intended to when he made this ring.

Every creature that you conjure will explode into a burst of ice and deal damage to your enemies if they’re killed. Nice!

11. Savos Aaren’s Amulet

Apocalypto 2006 hindi dubbed. Where To Get: You will get the ring of the powerful Savos Aaren once you complete Containment during the College of Winterhold questline.

Getting your hands on this amulet is actually quite easy.

And it’s one of the best amulets that you’ll find in all of Skyrim.

Savos Aaren’s Amulet grants an extra 50 points of magicka to your bar, allowing you to cast more powerful spells and use more of your magic potential.

It doesn’t have any other buffs, but considering that it can be combined with other magicka-fortifying pieces of equipment it’s a fantastic item for a mage.

10. The Gauldur Amulet

Where To Get: Completing the quest called Forbidden Legend will grant you the Gauldur Amulet as a reward.

Even though this great accessory isn’t just for mages, the fact that it reinforces 30 points to each of your three main attributes makes it a must-have. Well, if you can get your hands on it.

You’ll get 30 extra points of magicka as well as 30 points on your health and stamina. This makes it a fantastic amulet to hang on your neck if you wish to travel around the region with a quality all-around buff.

9. Nightweaver’s Band

Where To Get: You’ll need to finish the “Recipe for Disaster” quest from the Dark Brotherhood.

Here’s a ring that seems to be designed for people that like to sneak around and use destruction magic to perform assassinations.

The Nightweaver’s Band allows you to get a significant boost to your sneak skill as well as granting you a 10% reduction to the cost of all destruction spells that you cast.

It’s quite an odd combo of effects. But I know that some of you crazy people like to play as sneaky wizard-assassin hybrids, or whatever you like to call them. And with so many rings to choose from this is one heck of a great hybrid.

It’s not my style personally, but if it’s yours give this ring a try.

8. Ahzidal’s Ring of Arcana

Where To Get: This can be obtained similar to the first ring mentioned on this list, but you need to be on the third part of the Unearthed quest for this bad boy.

Curiously enough, this ring doesn’t grant you any buffs or bonuses to your regular skills.

What it does do is something different that makes it stand out amongst the rings that you’ll find in Skyrim, as it even gives you an ability that no enchanted ring will be able to give you. The tension is fabulous.

The Ring of Arcana allows you to cast Ignite and Freeze, two lost-cost spells that deal a fantastic amount of damage, just by equipping it. Any mage would love it.

7. Sanguine Rose

Where To Get: Complete “A Night to Remember” and serve Lord Sanguine well.

Not being able to fight with a sword doesn’t mean that you can’t hack and slash your enemies to the ground.

Use the Sanguine Rose and you’ll summon a powerful Dremora warrior to fight at your side for 60 seconds, which should be more than enough time to whoop your enemies dead without batting an eye.

It doesn’t have many other uses so care for it wisely.

6. Master Robes

Where To Get: These be bought at the College of Winterhold after reaching level 32

The Master Robes grant a fantastic buff of 150% to your magicka regeneration, and they also reduce the cost of spells depending on the school of magic that the robes belong to.

As one example: you’ll find Master Robes of Alteration that reduces the cost of alteration spells by 20% on top of that sweet 150% magicka regeneration buff. And there are different types of robes for mostly all schools of magic out there.

Find the clothes that suit your magic style appropriately and take full advantage of them. All you need to do is level up your player’s actual level(not the specific level of any school). So reaching level 32 ensures you’ll get those sweet robes one way or another.

5. Miraak’s Staff

Where To Get: You can get Miraak’s Staff after defeating him and then looting his corpse.

This staff allows you to summon a bunch of creepy tentacles on the ground. They deal damage to your enemies and poison them over time.

It’s a weird item for sure, but a very powerful one nonetheless. If you’re looking to add new magic powers to your arsenal then Miraak’s staff is by far one of the best options you have.

Keep in mind that you need to defeat Miraak to get them, so be prepared to face a proper match if you want to add this staff to your magical collection.

4. Miraak’s Robes

Where To Get: Much like his staff, you can get the robes of Miraak by looting his corpse after you strike him down in battle.

So are you really considering taking the clothes of a dead wizard, you sick psycho? Don’t worry, I did so too.

And they’re completely worth scrapping your morals for.

Not only do these clothes allow you to spawn tentacles upon receiving damage, they also absorb dragon damage like crazy. They’re fantastic and really unique and just so powerful that yeah guys, you should absolutely loot that corpse.

3. Level Up Enchanting & Make Your Own

Where To Get: Practice enchanting items to design your own custom mage build.

There’s no better way in the game to get exactly what you want enchanted in an item, beyond simply enchanting it yourself.

All you have to do is level up some of those skills and build whatever you want by smithing it and enchanting it yourself.

Nothing like old school doing-things-by-yourself if you want to have a tailor-made mage, am I right?

2. Ring of the Erudite

Where To Get: If you become Vampire Lord during Dawnguard, you’ll be able to get this item during the Rings of Blood Magic quest.

This absurdly powerful ring is the best ring that you can get as a wizard in Skyrim.

It increases your magicka total tally by +100 points and grants you the ability to regenerate magicka faster.

It’s the best ring in the game for a magician, but it’s going to take a lot of work to get it.

Oh and you’ll have to sell your identity to the lords of darkness, too. Is it worth it? Totally. Bring on the flames of Oblivion.

1. Archmage’s Robes

Where To Get: Once you complete the Eye of Magnus quest you’ll get these robes as a reward

Combining these robes with the Ring of the Erudite is setting yourself up for a world of unlimited magicka, basically.

They grant you a 15% reduction of spell costs for all schools of magicka. Yes, all schools!

Plus 50 magicka points and 100 magicka regeneration on top of it basically means any serious mage is going to want these robes over anything else.
